Deadline: September 30th 2016
The International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS) herewith launches the Call for Applications for its upcoming Study Trip to Paris. During three days, participants will explore the capital of France – a beautiful, historic city that has captured the imagination of millions of people from across the globe. Paris offers a large variety of choices for all kind of tastes and is not only a historical hub but also an important political, economic and cultural city. However, most importantly, it is the birthplace of contemporary European democracy and all its values.
In fact, the ideas of the French Revolution crossed the entire globe and are the foundation of civilrights in the Western hemisphere. However, the recent terrorist attacks have caused a seismic shift in the political and security landscape, where the state has reacted strongly by mobilizing its security forces and has increasingly marginalized the Muslim population of the country. This situation has been interpreted as a blow to individual rights, particularly those from varying different ethnic, national or religious backgrounds – as in the case of religious clothing in public spaces. Therefore, it is worth asking: What are the implications of the ongoing state of emergency in France? This Study Trip will be focused on the current French political situation, the way in which the state has dealt with internal security challenges and the effects of the adopted measures on the civil/individual rights of its citizens.
Excited? Then don’t hesitate and join IAPSS on this unique and exciting opportunity to discover one of the most important cosmopolitan cities in the world! Learn in the field about French republicanism, civil rights, and security policy. Moreover, meet fellow political science students from all around the world!
