Dear IAPSS Members and fellows,

Machiavelli, the study association of the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is proud to invite you to the

9th Annual IAPSS Conference & General Assembly at
the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 2-8 April 2006

The general theme of the Annual Conference is Global Crime. In order to suit everyone's interest we will specialise during three days into three subjects: Terrorism, Human Trafficking and Genocide. In the attached file you can find a copy of the preliminary program. In the morning, participants have the opportunity to attend both an introduction speech and two in-depth lectures to familiarize themselves with that day's subject. In the afternoon groups of approximately twenty people will further focus on the related sub-themes. All three themes will be placed in an international context first, after which the subject will be discussed with a local perception. You can think about Genocide & Darfur, Human Trafficking & Latin-America and Terrorism & Amsterdam. Please find for more information a preliminary description of the theme.

During the General Assembly we will discuss, among others, last year's obtained results of our association, select a new Executive Committee and set a continuation policy for next year. Both the Conference and the General Assembly are IAPSS yearly events where we as members can meet and reunite to exchange ideas. Furthermore, it is the place where plans for international projects are created and close relations are expanded. This all will be taking place in a context of lectures, meetings, workgroups and a lot of fun in the ambiance of beautiful Amsterdam.

The process of application is described on this website. As we already have received a lot of reactions of members and associations who would like to participate, even before we have sent out the invitations, we would like to check the number of participants of each association wishing to come. Please fill in the attached application form with the number of delegates and send it back before the 1st of February. As always it is IAPSS' goal to have a representative of every association member present and an even distribution of participants. Although we want every association to bring as many delegates as possible, I would like to point on the fact of the limited number of places. For that reason, we will make a selection after we have received all the application forms. Every association will receive a maximum number of participants and a subscription form the second week of February and will be asked to pay the conference fee during that week. Please, keep in mind that the conference fee is not the membership fee. The Conference fee includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch & diner and social events. Excluded are transportation cost to Amsterdam and insurance. We will announce the exact amount of conference fee after the submission of the application forms. But to give you an indication, the fee will be around 100 Euros as with previous conferences.

We will help you with all kinds of questions, also regarding visa procedures. Please note that visa procedures are variable per country so please, if you come from outside the European Union, check with the embassy of the Netherlands in your country for visa procedures. Further information regarding the conference and General Assembly will be available on our web page, which will be online soon. You will be able to reach the web page through a link on the IAPSS homepage.

Please do not hesitate to send all your questions regarding the Conference and General Assembly by email to pam@iapss.org. We hope to welcome you in Amsterdam this spring!
