IAPSS Board

IAPSS Board

Generally, there are three central institutions on which IAPSS is built upon: the Executive Committee, the Supervisory Committee and the General Assembly, the highest decision making body.

General Assembly

The General Assembly, also known as GA, is composed of all individual members, association members, alumni and honorable members that IAPSS holds. The General Assembly decides upon the general framework of the association. It votes upon statutes, decides upon the annual budget and membership fees, sets long-term goals and elects the other institutional bodies of the association. By involving all members, it ensures the democratic, transparent and empowering decision-making character of IAPSS. The General Assembly meets once a year for one day, at the end of the IAPSS World Congress (March / April). A second General Assembly is to be held in fall online.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee, also known as ExCom, is the executing organ of the association. It is composed of 8 members with 5 of them having their own department. Every department is composed of multiple IAPSS Coordinators directed by one member of the Executive Committee. The board is led by the President who chairs all sessions and represents the association both internally and externally. Besides implementing the resolutions and decisions taken by the General Assembly, the board carries out the portfolio and annual agenda of IAPSS – embracing all events, publications, projects and membership services. The Executive Committee is elected at the annual IAPSS World Congress for a one-year mandate.

Supervisory Committee

The Supervisory Committee, also known as SupCom, is the main monitoring organ of IAPSS. It supervises the work of the Executive Committee and overviews the proper implementation of the financial agenda of the association and the resolutions taken by the General Assembly. The Supervisory Committee reports directly to the General Assembly and can recommend actions in case violation of the statutes. Elected for a one-year mandate at the annual IAPSS World Congress, it composes of not more than three members.

Seasonal School Coordinator
_______________________________

Tobias has completed a bachelor degree in Political Science at the Free University Berlin and HEC Paris. He has recently started a dual master’s degree in European Affairs at Sciences Po Paris and the Free University Berlin. In addition to classic European and Franco-German issues, Tobias developed a sense of curiosity about the Eastern dimension of the European Integration. On one hand, he focused in this context on Poland’s role within the EU – for instance, it is an important growth country, which seems to find its role as a regional leader. On the other hand, he examined the neighborhood policy towards the Ukraine in the complex network with Russia. Additionally to the European politics based field of study, he showed active interest about the history of ideas. In fact, it constitutes the foundations a political scientist requires to decipher complex problems back to their roots.
Besides his addiction to French “savoir vivre”, he is a true sports lover. He speaks German, French and English fluently and is looking to improve his Spanish, Portuguese and Polish.

Olesya Dovgalyuk

Fundraising Coordinator
_______________________________

Born in Ukraine and raised in Russia, Olesya has recently completed her BSc in Politics and International Relations at the University of Bristol, focusing on the geo-economics of the post-Crimean crisis energy relations between the EU and Russia in her dissertation. Never-fading intellectual curiosity and research in interdisciplinary issues at the intersection of International Relations, International Law and Political Economy led her to present her works at international conferences and hold positions with non-governmental institutions (such as United Nations University) and student-led associations (such as AIESEC and ELSA, among others). These and other experiences sparked her major interest in the embryonic field of Cyber Law, leading her to co-author a subsequently-published article on the interregional judicial cooperation in cybercrime prosecution, organise a cybersecurity-centered interfaculty initiative at her university, and partake in related international events, such as WSIS 2017 Forum in Geneva. Olesya is determined to further explore political implications of the technological revolution, both academically – as a Yenching Scholar at Peking University, where she intends to deepen her understanding of China’s distinct approach to international law and internet governance, – and professionally.
Olesya first encountered IAPSS at the 2017 World Congress at Central European University in Budapest, which left her impressed by the Association’s commitment to provide platforms for research and experience exchange between the students of political science and related disciplines. As a fundraising coordinator, she is looking forward to contributing to this commitment and unleashing IAPSS’s potential to connect even more young minds.
