Is it possible to participate as a panel chair or discussant?

Yes! Serving as a panel chair and/or discussant is an opportunity to enhance your academic experience, and these positions are crucial for the best reciprocal outcome of the conference, as you will be giving our panelists valuable feedback on their work. You will also gain experience on reviewing papers as well as being part of an academic panel. The application will be open until 10 May, 2019, and you must purchase a ticket for the World Congress to be considered for one of these positions. You will be informed about our choice shortly afterwards. To apply for panel chairs and discussants, click here.

As a panel chair you are expected to:

  • Read the papers in your panel carefully and prepare thoughtful questions.
  • Start and keep your panel on time.
  • Take and manage questions from the audience directed to panelists.
  • Keep audience questions on topic.

As a discussant you are expected to:

  • Be prepared to discuss your reactions to the papers and why, answering such questions as what the author can improve.
  • Be prepared to stimulate conversation among the audience by posing questions for discussion.

My abstract was accepted by the World Congress Abstract Committee, and I need a letter of acceptance to show my university and/or employer.

Contact wc-info@iapss.org for a copy of your acceptance letter.

My abstract was accepted by the World Congress Abstract Committee – what is the deadline for submitting the paper and where can I find paper requirements?

The deadline to submit your paper is 5 May. The paper submission requirements can be found here.

Where can I stay while I am in town for the World Congress?

There are many great hostels, hotels and Airbnbs in Madrid! To help you narrow your search, The World Congress team recommends Hostal Casa Tao as one of the most cost efficient options. In general, the team recommends that accommodation near the Moncloa-Aravaca station will be most convenient for easy transportation to the conference site.

How can I apply for a travel grant or scholarship to participate in the World Congress?

There are two IAPSS funding opportunities:

IAPSS Scholarships – special grants awarded to a maximum of five students who demonstrate both academic excellence and pressing financial need, covering expenses up to 200 € each.

IAPSS Travel Grants – a limited number of partial grants distributed on the basis of academic merit and financial needs, covering expenses up to 100 € each.

Please note that all grants are handed out on-site in cash (EUR) during the conference – not in advance, and upon the condition of successful accomplishment of the paper presentation. If you wish to apply for either a scholarship or a travel grant (see above), please choose the respective option when submitting your information to the form, which is linked below. Please note that both IAPSS Scholarships and IAPSS Travel Grants are competitive and the travel grants usually only cover a part of individual travel costs. We therefore encourage you to search for other third-party funds at an early stage. To apply for a grant or scholarship to participate in the World Congress, click here.
