The International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS) herewith launches the Call for Applications for its upcoming annual Study Trip to Brussels, the political heart of Europe. During the three days spent in Brussels the participants will have a chance to become more familiar with the structures of the EU as well as to address critical questions pertaining to its future role. Will the economic differences between the Member States affect the political aspects of its work? Does the EU have a clear vision of its role globally? What is the future of the Eurozone and Schengen? Will there be a two-speed EU? How will the refugee crisis influence the Union?

The study visit will encourage you to look for the answers to the questions above and many other. Brussels offers a unique and centrally important venue for the EU integration and its policy-making. While considered the capital of the EU, it serves as a key landing place for the offices of NGOs, lobbyists, regional representations and international corporations. Apart from this, the city offers a vibrant and ever-changing cultural scene full of sightseeing must-goes.

Learn about the actors and institutions of the EU and get a first-hand experience on the EU’s policy-making mechanisms with the help of various political, academic and civil society actors, you will get the chance to ask questions, learn from the practitioners and immerse yourself in the Brussels energetic life.

 

Key Information

Arrival: Tuesday, March 15th , throughout the day

Programme: Wednesday, March 16th – Friday, March 18th  2016

Departure: Saturday, March 19th 2016       

                           

Participants: 26 students of Political Science, International Relations and related disciplines.

Trip Highlights:

  • A whole day visit to the European Commision (EC); with a comprehensive briefing on the role, institutional structure and policy-making processes within the EC.
  • A visit to the European Parliament headquarters
  • A visit to The Council of the European Union
  • An interaction with an EU lobbying company and getting all the insights of how they influence the development and implementation of European public policy
  • A visit to an EU Member State embassy to explore the threats facing the EU from a national perspective

Participation Fee per person: 220 EUR

Included: Accommodation for 4 nights at Jeugdherberg “Bruegel” (city centre hostel situated just five-minute walk from the Brussels Central Train Station and Grand Place); breakfast; welcome and farewell dinners; participation in the Study Trip’s programme.

Not included: Travel costs to and from Brussels from your home country, costs for Schengen visa*, public transportation in Brussels and (potential) immunisation costs. We encourage students to check with their home universities for potential scholarship options. Unfortunately, IAPSS does not provide scholarships or travel grants for this trip.

Remarks: After successful selection, the participation fee has to be transferred in advance in order to confirm your participation. Participants will have an opportunity to stay longer before/after the study trip at their own expense.

Please note that IAPSS membership is required in order to participate in IAPSS Study Trips. Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is the executive body of the association. It consists of the President, Secretary-General, Treasurer, Head of Academic Department, Head of Events Department, Head of Congress Management and Head of the International Cooperation & Public Relations Department. Members are elected to this body at the General Assembly, taking place in April each year.
